I. Patient recruitment

One of the most significant advantages of UD-GenoMed is its vicinity to a large number of patient groups.

Our company is located in the University of Debrecen - Medical and Health Science Centre (UD-MHSC), in the Észak-Alföld region of Hungary, in the second biggest Hungarian city: Debrecen. This university centre is not only a regional clinical university centre, but one of the most dominant and rapidly developing university centres of Hungary and Middle-Europe.

The Észak-Alföld region, which is on the northeastern side of our country and also the European Union, has a population of more than 1.5 million. Health status of this population is one of the worst in the European Union, shown by all the tested indicators (life expectancy, mortality, suicide, tuberculosis rate) compared with other European regions. Nevertheless, the overall strategic objective of our region is to become a quality life, health and recreational centre of Central and Eastern Europe based on their specific characteristic, which has resulted in the continuous public and private investment in the pharmaceutical and health industry, innovative clusters, and industry-university co-operation.

University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center is located in one of Europe's most beautiful campus. It keeps pace with medical innovations through sequential investments in infrastructure and cutting-edge technology. 10 special services are available only in UD-MHSC for citizens of the county. The UD-MHSC uses ISO 9001: 2000 standards.

The institution was on the list of EUROPE’S 500, which collected the 500 fastest growing institutes in the continent.

The people-oriented, patient-friendly clinics are led by 70 medical professors acknowledged leaders in their fields, supported by approxmately 250 associate professors, almost 1000 physicians and 2000 medical assistants who treat one hundred and fifty thousand patients per year. One and a half million people receive the highest level of health care, with almost 2000 beds for in-patients. The outfit and diagnostic equipments of medical rooms of outpatient and inpatient care also meet the requirements of XXI. century.

The UD-MHSC is also in the forefront of the pharmaceutical clinical studies, due to its well-characterized patient treatment strategies and professional routine. Additionally more than hundred studies are managed yearly, of which more than 60 percent are recurring partners.

UD-GenoMed also utilizes these resources and working together with UD-MHSC it can provide for your clinical genomics studies both the required patient samples and clinical data also with genomic infrastructure and professional expertise.

 

II. Biobanking

  1. To create biobanks – collecting primer biological samples to process and archive them
  2. To create clinical and molecular biology databases connected to biobank collections
  3. To ensure controlled access to biobank sample collections and databases
  4. To ensure controlled access to the MMI UVCut laser micro dissector
  5. To provide consultation and database creation
  6. To ensure access to general and specific biobanking protocols and know-how
  7. To ensure practical training in biobanking protocols

The biobanking infrastructure, which contains storage and processing capacity of samples and a computer network, in Clinical Genimic Center was established -supported by European Union- in 2001. It is the member of Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (www.bbmri.eu), technical background satisfies all requirements. The establishment of GLP like ISO quality assurance system is in process, deadline is the end of this year. Our company has full access to the biobank, and we are providing the full range of services to our customers.

One of the most important aims of the biobank is to examine complex human diseases (e.g. lung cancer, COPD, schizophrenia). Sample collections and databases can be used for own or contractual research activities. UD-GenoMed has a close connection to clinics when doing biobank activity, if needed, it can also provide training facilities for research staff collecting primer samples, and furthermore, databases including data are created consulting with participating physicians. Biological samples are also created on the basis of the given research project. UD-GenoMed can also help independent research groups to start biobanking projects, to share relevant protocols and to provide training for using protocols.

 

Type of access of our biobank:

  • General protocols used in creating the biobanks and technological know-how can be downloaded free of charge from the web page
  • Consultation with the laboratory director is free of charge for non-profit organizations or self-cost has to be paid
  • Services are not free of charge for profit-oriented institutions. Prices of consultation, practical training, sample collection and creating biobanks are recorded on a contractual basis
